I had an idea to do this page while I was listening to the radio, partially singing along with the songs. I had noticed that there were many pages with lyrics that had little or no audio files, and also pages with many audio files and little or no lyrics. This gave me the idea to combine them together. I just did not know what type of audio file I would use, but found RealAudio later. What stood out was their relatively small file sizes and the capabililty of streaming. This is basically how RealAudio Request started.

I had originally introduced RealAudio Request to the internet somewhere between 1996 and 1997, but I do not know the exact day it started or ended, as it was deleted from my computer and removed it from my account at Geocities. I do remember that I stopped making it then because I did not know many places to get lyrics. That was the end of RealAudio Request until I created a new account on Geocities and used the same idea. It was re-introduced to the internet June 21, 1998 as RealAudio Song Request Page. By October 1998, Song and Page were dropped from the title. On June 21, 2008, the site became Music Request, to reflect the change from the sites past as it now goes into the future.

Beginning January 2001, and working for five months creating new pages and a new layout, I transferred the site into a Perl script template. This made changes easier, while also being friendlier for the visitors, as links would become standardized across the site. On June 21st, 2001, this site's third year anniversary, I released the new layout of RealAudio Request. Until June 21, 2008, the format and layout of the website from June 2001 remained, though there had been many small changes and additions.

With this new layout, not only does it look cleaner, but there were several additional features added. Going from CD Universe.com to Amazon.com, adds the ability to purchase the whole physical CD, purchase the whole CD in a download format, or just download individual tracks. There is also the ability to preview the prices of the CD without leaving this website. With more and more official music video companies publishing their artists music and videos on YouTube, these do not have a high risk of being deleted due to copyright violations.
